1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Melt butter and combine in a mixing bowl with 1-1/2 cups sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add flour, salt and almond flavoring. Mix well.
3. Pour batter into a 9" to 11" iron skillet which has been lined with aluminum foil (leave excess foil on either side for later use). Cover top with pecans and sprinkle with sugar.
4. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes.
5. Remove cake from pan using extra foil around edges. When cool, use extra foil to wrap cake tightly. Don't try to peel foil off while cake is still warm.
